2025 Campaign The #1Lib1Ref campaign is now in its 8th year, and the Canadian friendly competition is in 6th year! Wikimedia Canada invites you to participate in the 2025 competition running from January 15th to February 5th. Imagine a world where each librarian added at least one reference to an article in Wikipedia... together, we can contribute to the reliability and credibility of humanity's most consulted source of information! Who Can Participate? Any self-identified library worker or lover based in Canada are eligible to participate in the 2025 Canadian contest. How to participate? Join the Canadian #1Lib1Ref 2025 Dashboard between January 15 and February 5, 2025 If you want to contribute to a language version of Wikipedia that is not French or English, please email the organizers so we can make sure your edits are tracked in the dashboard Add a citation to a Wikipedia article. To find articles that need citations you can: Use the Citation Hunt tool Browse WikiProject Cleanup Listings (organized alphabetically by WikiProject) Browse Wikipedia and edit an article that you find interesting Add the hashtag #1lib1ref to your edit summary Organizing a #1Lib1Ref event You can also organize a Coffee Hour event with your colleagues. Do not hesitate to contact our team; we can help you. #1Lib1Cat Categories help improve the searchability and findability of articles on Wikipedia. They also help establish relationships between pages with related content. New for 2025, Wikimedia Canada is piloting a new method of contributing to #1lib1ref: #1Lib1Cat, short for one librarian, one category. The goal of this pilot is to utilize library workers' skills, aside from citation work, to improve Wikipedia. How to participate Join the Canadian #1Lib1Ref 2025 Dashboard Familiarize yourself Wikipedia's editing guidelines for categorization Add or improve the categories of a Wikipedia article Browse the list of articles needing additional categories Add the hashtags #1lib1cat and #1lib1ref to your edit summary Rules You must be a registered user on Wikipedia; You must be based in Canada; If you have won the first place prize of a contest organized by Wikimedia Canada within the last five years, you are ineligible for the first place prize for the 2025 Canadian #1lib1ref contest
