Recent activities
edit100th anniversary of the Centrale
editThe event went well with around 59 participants. There were less people for the workshop at the end. The conferences were well appreciated. Lëa-Kim Chateauneuf compiled appreciation forms.
Marie D. Martel proposes to host a similar event next year with a different thematic, such as the history of the women within the libraries and the archives. The same concept: an event more scientific followed by a workshop.
Lëa-Kim Chateauneuf will send an activity report to Jean-Philippe Béland for the Activity Report 2017.
WikiCheese
editBetween 10 and 11 cheeses have been documented for Wikimedia Commons. A few Wikipedia articles have already been written and the work is still on-going.
The plan is to continue this project to document more cheeses in 2018. There is a proposal to involve more the producers.
Marie D. Martel will send quantitative results to Jean-Philippe Béland.
Visit to Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean
editA group from Wikimedia Canada visited the public library of Alma. A video has been produced by Lëa-Kim Chateauneuf and uploaded to YouTube. The libraries plan to organize wiki events. The group also met the historic society and BAnQ Chicoutimi also mentioned its interest. There is the possibility to create a Saguenay WikiClub with a little bit more mobilization.
Visit to Quebec City
editBenoit Rochon met three archivists of BAnQ as well as the archives of Quebec City and other Wikipedians. There were discussions to create a Quebec City WikiClub, but nobody wants to be the representative as of now. They plan to participate to the Archives Day on 9 June. A total of around 15 participants.
In the evening there was a meetup of Wikipedians. They discussed about the project to do a podcast with Antoine Letarte. The purchase of audio equipment is included in the 2018 budget.
Visit of the Governor General in Ottawa
editThree Wikipedians of Wikimedia Canada visited the Governor General in Ottawa. There were discussions about the Crown Copyright and the Governor General was very interested about this topic and about liberating part of it. Wikimedia Canada pushes to at least have the photographs of the ministers and the members of parliament in the public domain. The discussions between the Governor General and Wikimedia Canada are still on-going.
Wikimedia Canada invited the Governor General to the activity in March during the Women Day about the women in science. The Acfas will also participate. The proposed date is 10 March.
Remembrance Day in Ottawa
editTwo Wikipedians of Wikimedia Canada went to Ottawa to document the Remembrance Day for Wikimedia Commons. Around 60 photographs and 2 videos have been uploaded.
Pedagogic activity
editHa-Loan Phan presented Wikipedia in class at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) as part of the course EDM1050 Connaissance des médias on the invitation of Anne-Marie Brunelle.
Outreach activity about fake news
editThe Acfas (Ha-Loan Phan) organized a 5@7 public activity with a grant from the WMF and Wikimedia France. There were around 40 participants. A recording have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Members of Wikimedia Canada participated. Ha-Loan Phan gave an interview to the radio of Radio-Canada Ottawa-Gatineau about this activity. Lëa-Kim Chateauneuf did a small photographic session.
Benoit Rochon proposes to always do photographic session during public activities to take the portraits of notable people.
An activity report has been published on Meta.
Ha-Loan Phan mentions that by creating a Facebook event we can reach more people.
The Committee proposes to use the WMF Outreach Dashboard to document the activities organized by Wikimedia Canada.

editLast week the Livernois Project was launched. Benoit Rochon uploaded 700 photographs in Wikimedia Commons and transcribed the notice of the father Casgrain on WikiSource about the death of Livernois. There is the possibility to involve the Quebec City WikiClub and BAnQ Québec.
