Projects/Distribution
The Israel chapter is working on a similar project
edit"Africa Center" Project - As part of the annual delegation sent by the Institute of African Studies in the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Wikimedia Israel, in partnership with Amutat Hamakor, initiated a shipment of Linux-installed computers including a static version of the French Wikipedia to Cameroon and Benin. Wikimedia volunteers assisted in connecting between the university and Amutat Hamakor, installing the computers, creating a local copy of The French Wikipedia and instructing the expatriates.[1]--Doc James 02:53, 26 March 2011 (EDT)
The Sneakernet
editI'm very interested in reviving this project, I've noticed it hasn't been super active since 2011. Considering the significant price decreases in flash media, it is now feasible to widely distribute Wikipedia via the w:Sneakernet, or sending static copies of Wikipedia by mail. A related project would be the Rigsum Sherig Collection Project, in which flash media containing valuable educational resources are sent to remote libraries and schools with largely slow or otherwise non-existent access to internet.
