Discussion is taking place on the French version of this page. There is already a Canadian Wikisource, and it is called Wikilivres. This project was started in 2006, and was managed by Yann alone until recently. Now Pathoschild has helped to upgrade and maintain the site. It is hosted by iWeb in Montréal. The objective is to host texts and multimedia files which may not be hosted elsewhere, notably on Wikisource and Wikimedia Commons, due to copyright restrictions. The project hosts documents in several languages: Chinese, Czech, French, English, German, Polish, Russian, Spanish and a few others (French, English, and Russian being the main languages). There are 2 main issues: Legal responsibility; Financial responsibility.

Wikilivres est déjà utiliser pour héberger les documents qui ne pourrait pas l’être sur Wikisource.

Comme je l'ai dit recemment sur Wikisource, je ne peux plus assurer seul la gestion de ce site. Est-ce que Wikimedia Canada serait intéressé pour prendre en charge la gestion de ce site ? Yann 23:57, 21 March 2011 (EDT)

Je suis déjà conscient de la situation depuis l'année passée, et j'ai toujours considéré la possibilité que ce projet pourrait entrer dans la famille de Wikimédia Canada. C'était impossible sans que WM-CA soit organisé. Je ne vois pas un hébergement officiel avant six mois, mais celà n'empèche personne d'aider Wikilivres d'une façon privée pour garantir sa survivance en attendant. La discretion est essentiellle. La question récente de la liste de courriel nous montre que ça prend très peu pour encourager les gens de se plaindre. Il y a deux questions principales :

1. responsabilité légale: je possède le nom de domaine, et je suis le responsable légal jusqu'à présent. Je suis prêt à céder le nom de domaine si cela est nécessaire, et/ou à transférer le site vers un autre domaine (wikisource.ca?).
2. responsabilité financière. J'assure la responsabilité financière, et je couvre la quasi-totalité des coûts. J'ai reçu quelques dons, mais qui sont très loin de couvrir le coût de l’hébergement (US$ 75 par mois). Une solution serait de trouver un hébergement gratuit, par exemple par une université canadienne. Yann 02:59, 22 March 2011 (EDT)

Actually, Wikilivres also hosts texts under a non-commercial license now (CC-BY-NC, etc.). If necessary, we could move these texts to another site. These texts do not need to be hosted in Canada. They could be hosted in Wikia, for example. Yann 05:12, 22 March 2011 (EDT)

The financial responsibility needs to be addressed first, but that should be the easy one. Once that's done we will have the leisure to consider the other in depth. I have no problem with our hosting NC-licensed material, though some open access purists may see that differently. We need to anticipate all possible arguments that could arise that would hinder this from being a properly functioning Canadian project. Eclecticology 05:43, 22 March 2011 (EDT)
